Chris Lawler, MSW, LGSW LADC

I believe that individuals seeking support and healing from mental health disorders benefit from a place where they can be fully heard and provided with the space and safety to tell their stories. I also enjoy working collaboratively with individuals to determine how they will sustain positive change and maintain growth-fostering connections in their communities long after our work together is complete.

My approach to therapy incorporates person-centered, humanistic, strengths-based, bio-psycho-social, motivational interviewing, solutions-focused and trauma informed perspectives. I often incorporate components of cognitive behavioral therapy, and I enjoy the use of humor, novelty, mindfulness, play and creativity in therapy.

I've enjoyed a career working with both youth and adults who struggle with both substance use and mental health disorders (co-occurring disorders), with past clinical experience in school, mental health clinic and substance use treatment settings. Areas of expertise have included work with co-occurring disorders, difficult life transitions, anxiety, grief and loss, anger, complex trauma (e.g. childhood neglect and abuse, violence, assault), family conflict, academic struggle, substance use prevention and relapse prevention. I’m interested in continuing to work with these concerns, and to continue gaining experience working with complex trauma, specific to providing Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I look forward to being a collaborative partner and support to anyone I have the privilege to work with, and I’m happy to connect and answer any questions before we schedule.
