Connection serves as the foundation for change.  

As humans we are created for connection. Suffering from emotional pain caused by anxiety or depression, loss or disappointments, trauma or relationship-struggles can be incredibly lonely and isolating. Fortunately, we are designed to heal and grow in the presence of safe and trusting relationships where we can feel understood and connected. At Slate, we believe the first step to change is fostering an empathic, close, and collaborative therapeutic relationship with each of our clients. 

 

Foster a spirit of curiosity, exploration, discovery, and play.  

We believe that people cannot grow when they are scared, ashamed, and closed-off. In order to help our clients make the meaningful changes in their lives, we strive to foster natural inquisitiveness and wonder about the world. From this, they are able to learn about themselves and their world can open to an entire range of new possibilities. As humans, when we play, we learn; when we are curious, we find solutions to challenges we never knew existed.

Each of us has unique strengths and attributes that can become stifled and overlooked when we are struggling and in emotional pain. At Slate, we can help you reconnect, or even connect for the first time, with your strengths and the parts of yourself that can help foster the healing and growth that is important to you. This process can lead to a life filled with more of what you love, deeper connections, and the courage to make the choices and follow the paths that you are seeking.

One size does not fit all. 

At a time when the field of therapy is moving towards generic, one-size-fits-all interventions, we at Slate believe that the interactions of the mind and body are incredibly complex, and people’s needs to be tailored to their unique needs. We believe that a combination of integrative, holistic, evidence-based practices, tailored to the individual, create the most meaningful, lasting change. Body awareness, mindfulness, meditation, physical activity, and many other interventions contribute to the well-being of the individual. Together we will explore ways to utilize these practices to improve your psychological health.  

 

Scientifically informed care. 

Through the course of human history, we have developed an incredibly complex and comprehensive way of understanding the world. In applying this way of understanding, humans have created wonders and accomplished the profound. From vaccines, to flight, to the ability to ensure that a baby born prematurely has a meaningful chance at living a vibrant life, scientific inquiry has provided a method for us to make sense of the world and improve our lives. The clinical work at Slate is no different. Our interventions are informed by research and tailored specifically to you. We are guided by the fields of cognitive neuroscience, biology, evolution, and psychology. Through this understanding, we have refined approaches to help individuals heal and create more meaningful fulfilled lives.
